From A Position Of Strength?

Sinn Féin’s poll-topping came on the same day as the Omagh ruling. If Michael McKevitt and his gang really were “dissident Republicans” then they would long ago have met the fate of other such “dissidents” down the decades. What is the power that they have over those to whose legislative will the European Union subjects us?

  1. As 26% of Voters backed Sinn Féin-IRA, this is evidence of two things in relation to Omagh. Either the 126,000 who voted for them DONT blame them for Omagh OR dont actually care if they were involved or not.
If the former (more likely) is the case then perhaps they are in a better position to know than you.
If the latter (unlikely) is the case then 126,000 voters including myself of course.......all products of Catholic schools you seek to defend (and I also in my previous role as parent and governor)....then that lack of moral judgement on behalf of products of Catholic education would be a very poor reflection.

No point in really trying to distinguish mainstream and dissident republicanism for you as youve already decided that there is no difference.
The real scandal is not just that the mainstream IRA in 1998 could not have provided more info (they could have) but what exactly the security forces knew in advance.

Its hard to believe that the investigation was so "botched". A reasonable person......including most but not all relatives have concluded that the Truth has been deliberately witheld.
Interesting yesterday that Michael Gallagher and Mr Barker were singing from the same hymnsheet as their relationship has been testy to say the least. And interesting also that so many relatives dont feel represented by the two factions led by Gallagher and Barker.

  2. Oh, I don't mean the voters. I mean the party. I wouldn't condone rubbing out McKevitt et al. But if the Provisional Army Council, still in existence and still claiming to be the sovereign body throughout the thirty-two counties, really did take exception to them, then that would already have happened by now.
