Hills of the North, Rejoice?

This looks a bit desperate, I'm afraid. As one comment puts it:

The Conservatives need to concentrate on the industrial towns around the big northern cities - places like Bolton, Hyndburn, Bury, Worsley, Wallasey, Halifax, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Keighley, Sunderland Central, Stockton, Penistone, Don Valley, Bassetlaw. These areas know that Labour has failed but have not yet been given a reason to vote Conservative. The skilled northern working class is there for the taking - we just need the right policies.

I get the feeling though that these places aren't regarded as 'fashionable' enough by the party leadership.

There are twice as many potential Conservative gains in West Yorkshire alone as in the whole of Scotland yet I suspect Scotland is regarded as more important by the party leadership.

Well, if the Tories think that Sunderland, the largest city between Leeds and Edinburgh, is "an industrial town around a big Northern city", then they certainly do have a problem.

In Bolton, Hyndburn, Bury, Worsley, Wallasey, Halifax, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Keighley, Sunderland Central, Stockton, Penistone, Don Valley, Bassetlaw, and everyhwere else where you know that Labour has failed but have not yet been given a reason to vote Conservative, you do now have someone to vote for. So, where are our candidates? Do get in touch - davidaslindsay@hotmail.com.

  1. A genuine question David. It appears from this post that you don't have candidates for at least some of these seats you mention. How many do you have now?
Best wishes and a merry Xmas to you.

  2. I'll let you know in the New Year, when even I will have an exact answer. Certain people are um-ing and ah-ing about whether they are actually going to stand for Parliament, because it is such a big step. Believe in yourselves. You can do it.

  3. Thanks, that's really helpful. When in the New Year? I don't mean exact date, obviously, but early Jan / late Jan / early Feb etc?

  4. Ok, you don't have exact numbers, but a rough estimate? After all, it appears as if you are interviewing all candidates, so you should have a ballpark figure even if some are still considering. So 10? 20? 100? More than 100?

  5. Late January/early February (if everything goes according to plan...).

Nowhere near 100 yet, but should get there quite quickly (if everything goes according to plan...).
