A few hours ago, I nearly bought a bottle of whisky, but my shopping bag was already full of inessentials such as food. Now we have snow, and I have not a drop in. God is not mocked, but he loves to mock me.
Even without a tincture of the water of life, I ought to be enjoying the first hot water bottle since the spring, but I have just had a message to tell me that the Mauritian Government was already altering the official documentation of the thoroughly mistreated Chagossians under its rule. Their birthplaces in the Chagos Islands are no longer recorded. Instead, there appears the single word "Mauritius".
When Jeremy Corbyn was arguing for Chagossian self-determination, then that cause was dismissed as laughable and reviled as treasonable by the people who now deplored this erasure while cheering on the same treatment of the Palestinians, and who movingly recounted the eviction of the Chagossians while laughing out or shouting down such accounts of the Nakba. Though repulsive, at least the heirs of Denis Healey and David Miliband are consistent.
Centrists can't understand why anyone would want to be British.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of truth in that. From voting for Brexit, to wanting to emigrate to Britain, they just don't get it.
DeleteThen there's the right that hates everything about Britain from the NHS down.
ReplyDeleteYet which has the gall to call the rest of us unpatriotic.
