The Tribune Group has no connection to Tribune, but if it has 80 MPs ready to launch a Leadership challenge "from the Left", then what have those MPs been doing up to now, amid the withdrawal of the Winter Fuel Payment, the proposed cuts to sickness and disability benefits, the retention of the two-child benefit cap, and all the rest of it?
And in what political way would Louise Haigh, Lisa Nandy or Lucy Powell, who were all members of the Cabinet that implemented those egregious policies and one of whom still is, be any improvement on Keir Starmer, or preferable to Wes Streeting or to Shabana Mahmood?
As for Clive Lewis and Andy Burnham, the choice of Labour candidate at a parliamentary by-election is by the National Executive Committee, and the Greens would now win a by-election at Norwich South. In any case, again, Burnham? Who once privatised a hospital? For that matter, Lewis? Who will sign Early Day Motions, and even amendments at a push, but who has never voted against this Government? He would have lost the whip today. If he mattered.
But Northern!
ReplyDeleteI know, what condescending claptrap. Did Boris Johnson need to do that? Does Nigel Farage? Burnham, Haigh and Powell are not as posh as those two, although Nandy is not far off, but they are all at least as middle-class as I am. As everyone up here can tell.
DeleteHas Burnham said anything?
ReplyDeleteDeafeningly, no.
