Nadine Dorries is one of Boris Johnson's closest allies, perhaps the closest of all, and this article may as well be entitled Bring Back Boris. What interest has he in being a backbencher? He remains a member of the House of Commons purely in order to return as Prime Minister.
Johnson left his party a normal midterm four points behind. But under Liz Truss, it can no longer dream of the 12,877,918 votes, 40 per cent share, and 232 seats with which Labour lost the 2017 General Election.
Through Dorries, he's going to the bother of denying it.
