Taking It To The Wire

When did Japan turn "Communist"? Or South Korea, of all places? The Conservatives will eventually claim to have invented the idea of universal free broadband, in the way that James Cleverley claimed on last night's Question Time that they had invented the idea of the NHS. Not that it had been in all three manifestos in 1945, which is true. But that his party had thought of it in the first place, which is not.

But in the meantime, we must make do with the likes of Chris Leslie, who apparently spent last night tweeting his distaste at the notion of such luxury as Internet access for the common little oiks. For years, Leslie used his position as a Labour MP as a platform from which to advocate permanent austerity as a matter of principle, with the British State doing nothing at home except punish all behaviour other than the pettiest of the petty bourgeois, and doing nothing abroad except fight whichever war Saudi Arabia happened to order up at the given time.

Harriet Harman made this creature the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer. And most Labour MPs are still going to be like him, since not a single one has been deselected, although other means have been used to remove from the Labour Party the only MP known to engage with Modern Monetary Theory, Chris Williamson. That engagement will turn out to have had far more to do with his expulsion than anything else had.

But Chris is seeking re-election at Derby North. Another hung Parliament is coming, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. I am standing for Parliament here at North West Durham. The crowdfunding page is here, and buy the book here. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
