Capital

Boris Johnson made very little impression when he was a Member of Parliament the first time around.

But he has scurried back to the House of Commons, even though George Osborne has the Conservative Leadership sewn up, rather than be humiliated at the ballot box by the London that he has played no small role in creating.

The metropolis that has come of age during his Mayoralty, over half of which has itself been under a Conservative Government, and which is still becoming even more like that every day, will never again elect a Conservative Mayor. It is inconceivable.
