Is the Lib Dem tail wagging the Conservative dog?
Not at all.
No one ever joined the Lib Dems, or the old Liberal Party, in order to become Prime Minister; initially, the SDP was a different matter. Whereas no one ever joined the Conservative Party for any other reason.
Finding themselves in office wholly unexpected, but alongside people who have assumed and been told since birth that they would and should end up running the country, the Lib Dems have it within their power to shatter at any moment the entire intellectual, emotional and moral universe of their Coalition partners.
