The Right Way Round

It is quite clear that much of the Conservative Right is on the brink of secession.

But any breakaway MPs will not join UKIP, any more than the SDP joined George Brown's Social Democratic Alliance or Dick Taverne's Democratic Labour Association.

They were expected to join it, and such would be the situation again. UKIP would be expected to join those MPs, strictly on those MPs' terms.

There would be, and it looks more and more as if there will be, absolutely no suggestion of doing it the other way round.

The secession of the parliamentary Right will be the end of UKIP, as such.
