Old Statesmen

Buy this week's New Statesman. Do not miss Dominic Sandbrook, or Jon Cruddas, or Mehdi Hasan, or Samira Shackle, or Jonathan Derbyshire's interview with Maurice Glasman.

At last, signs of a return to the Labour Movement that was patriotic, socially conservative, unashamedly nostalgic, as English as it was Scottish and Welsh, as English as anything else in England, a standing contradiction of Marxist historiography, and precisely therefore an effective force for social justice and for peace.

Electoral reform will restore that Movement as the major element in British electoral politics that it has never ceased to be in British public opinion. Bring it on.
