David Shakespeare, leader of Buckinghamshire County Council and of the Local Government Association's Conservative Group, believes that people from the North of England should move to the South in order to do the sort of work, such as fruit-picking, currently done by Eastern Europeans.
Well, there will certainly be the room soon enough, once the Government has cleared the working poor from the whole of the South of England, lest the sight, sound, feel, smell or taste of them offend Lib Dem voters. Those voters' party has been pioneering this clearance strategy for several years in the City of Newcastle upon Tyne, within, rather than around, which the working and lower middle classes, never as numerous there as you might have thought, now barely exist.
It is rather less obvious quite how the entire South is supposed to function with the working and lower middle classes permitted only to live around it, but never in it. Perhaps we dare expect enlightenment from Councillor Shakespeare? Or from the Lib Dems?
