7/7: Never Forget

That, as the bombers themselves made perfectly clear, it was Tony Blair's fault.

  1. I don't recall Tony Blair blowing himself up on the tube.

  2. He was the reason why they did it. As they themselves said. They were responding to the wars in Afghanistan and, especially, Iraq. Tony Blair's fault.

  3. He didn't put a gun to their head and compel them to do it. They had free will. They could easily have chosen not to react that way.

Christ, I never thought I'd find myself defending Blair!

  4. Then don't.

Had we not involved ourselves in these wars, then there would have been no 7/7.

Ken Clarke warned of this during the Commons debate on Iraq. Just for once, he was right.

Sir Peter Tapsell also asked about this possibility at PMQs about a fortnight before it happened. They all laughed. They were not laughing very soon afterwards.
