The Tories started on solid ground. Simply by staying as they were, they had, in line with public opinion, a more left-wing health policy than New Labour for as long as there was any New Labour. But all that ended today. As a price of coalition with the Lib Dems.
The same Lib Dems who have agreed that fifty-five per cent of MPs will now have to vote against a Confidence Motion for it to fail, or in favour of a No Confidence Motion for it to pass. Yes, that would have saved the Callaghan Government. But it would save the Cameron Government even if the Lib Dems left it, since Cameron's party has forty-seven per cent of MPs.
