I have known Daniel Kebede since long before he became General Secretary of the National Education Union. For a time, we lived only a few streets away from each other and we went to the same church.
He will now be a Your Party member, if anything, although he was solidly pro-Brexit on the old Bennite grounds, and he used to express the same opposition to gender self-identification that comes from the Morning Star and the Workers Party. At the Durham Miners’ Gala in 2022, he specifically asked me to endorse his candidacy for General Secretary. I did. He won. Make of that what you will.
Yet I disagree with him about banning under-16s from social media. His politics and mine, as surely as Nigel Farage’s, would be kept away from teenagers who were becoming politically conscious, while the schools and the official media (not only the state ones, in either case) rammed the official ideology down their throats.
Meanwhile, the Government wants to force 13-year-olds to have smartphones so that they can have digital ID, which Keir Starmer now states frankly that we were all going to need if wanted to access our own money. In two weeks, it has gone from stopping the boats, to this.
Very important points.
