A Government Whip when the House of Commons voted for the Iraq War, Ivor Caplin is the former MP for Hove, a former Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Veterans and People in the Ministry of Defence, and a close friend, the closest ally, and a former lover of Hove's present MP, Peter Kyle, who is the Secretary of State for Business and Trade and the President of the Board of Trade, having cut his teeth under the Chief Whip at the time of the vote on Iraq. As a member of the Labour Party's Southeast Regional Board, Caplin approved or rejected parliamentary candidacies. But 17 months after his suspension from membership, the party has yet to conduct a disciplinary hearing. Yet for what has he been suspended?
Caplin is alleged to have sexually assaulted a vulnerable young homeless person in a hostel in Brighton on 5 March 2024. On 13 May, the journalist Greg Hadfield was interviewed by Sussex Police about his exposure of Caplin's pornographic online proclivities. On 10 January 2025, Hadfield refused a police caution. On 11 January, Caplin was arrested after a group of paedophile-hunters had stung him attempting to meet a child. He has since been bailed five times, and on Tuesday he was released under investigation. But Hadfield faces up to six months in prison and an unlimited fine. Please support him here.
Caplin will get a peerage next.
