A Bit Unsettling

Richard Stone's portrait of Margaret Thatcher is not even all that good, it "hangs in her former study" only in that it hangs in the Prime Minister's study, that room has come to be known informally as "the Thatcher Room" only since it came to contain that picture, and all that Keir Starmer will be doing will be moving the painting to another part of the building. It is hardly as if he is going to burn it.

Gordon Brown? Ask him about the intended means-testing of his hitherto universal winter fuel payment. He has also called for the scrapping of the two-child benefit cap. The Conservatives and Reform UK abstained rather than vote against the lifting of that cap, and they will vote against that means test if a procedural way can be found to divide the House on the matter. Starmer may have placed Thatcher's image out of sight. But he has kept her ideology in full view.

  1. Labour are the last Thatcherites.

    1. If the vote on the benefit cap had left that in any doubt, then a vote on the fuel payment would settle the matter.
