Women and Equalities

Eye-wateringly embarrassing stuff from Keir Starmer at the TUC yesterday. Everyone knows that his father owned the factory. Michael Foot and Tony Benn never played down their backgrounds. Prolier-than-thou is always despised by the real thing. Why lie? And in court, Starmer would have treated this as lying. It was not the whole truth.

Speaking of court, imagine that under Jeremy Corbyn, a Labour MP, and a five foot woman at that, had been granted permission not to have to give her home address when standing trial at what turned out to be a malicious prosecution by the Leader's supporters, for fear of physical attack by those supporters. Yet such has been the lot of Apsana Begum.

Or imagine that under Jeremy Corbyn, a Labour MP, again a woman, had been unable to attend Conference, again for fear of such attack. Yet such is the lot of Rosie Duffield. And the issue at the root of her travails is why it is going to be so difficult to fill the position of Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities, which has been vacated by Marsha de Cordova, and we all know why. Yet again, imagine that under Jeremy Corbyn. In all three cases, you can't.

  1. Will Duffield be allowed to be a Labour candidate next time?

    1. Probably not. But Rod Liddle lives half the year in Canterbury, and it is the seat of the University of Kent, the home of Spiked.
