You get to do the race thing when the Chief Whip in a Labour Government has refused point blank to have you as a council candidate in her constituency because you were mixed-race, and has unleashed her employee and preferred successor to subject you to a torrent of racial abuse for 18 years and counting.
As for the monarchy itself, it usefully keeps sweet a lot of people who need to be kept sweet. Although on what specific grounds it has ever had that effect on them, I honestly do not know. But it keeps them out of politics, so God Save The Queen.
