Enough To Turn Them Purple

The Church of England's bishops miss Theresa May very much. One way or another, she resembles many of them very closely indeed.

A lifelong active member of the C of E, a child of its clergy, born in the 25 years after the War, state school and Oxbridge, theologically a kind of conservative liberal from a very traditionalist Anglo-Catholic background, and politically a Tory but not too much of one.

Boris Johnson, on the other hand, has repeatedly expressed the lazier sort of Classicist's view that Christianity overthrew a superior civilisation. The Church Commissioners could still buy the Channel Four Television Corporation out of their small change. But other offers might now be considered. Oh, yes. You read it here first.
