Floreat

Eton will not be going back until September. There is no answer to that. Other people's children are not Boris Johnson's canaries.

For the purposes of such foreign relations as are currently being conducted, Johnson is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. But in domestic policy terms, he is the Prime Minister only of those parts of England which have neither Labour councils nor, as in Cornwall, tourist areas that the locals are desperate to protect from infection.

Nowhere else does anyone pay the slightest attention to him. This is resistance far beyond that to Thatcherism, when only Liverpool and the mining areas really held out. Those had the furthest to fall, and they fell the furthest.

Bur this time, the resistance is the governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, together with parts of England that have a far higher combined population than that of those three, plus practically the entire trade union movement, which means practically the entire public sector. And this time, the resistance is being backed to the hilt by the Police.

Those blobs of blue on the map do not usually have very many people in them, and even then they have the same public sector trade unions and the same Police as everywhere else. It is no wonder that Johnson is so keen on herd immunity. His writ barely runs beyond cattle.
