"Who Voted For Socialism Lite?"

As Darren Grimes knows perfectly well, this Government was elected by places like North West Durham to Get Brexit Done. And now that it has done so, then the only way to hold these seats (without which, lest we forget, the Conservative Party had no majority at all) is to spend, spend, spend. So that is what Boris Johnson proposes to do.

It was not the working-class Tories up here who won it for Johnson. They would have voted Conservative anyway, and they will vote Conservative anyway next time. It was people who had voted for Jeremy Corbyn only two and a half years before, and who would have done so again if it had not been for Brexit. But Brexit will not be an issue in 2024.

And we have not exchanged one one-party state for another. Ours is instead the 2020 Vision of a new political party, a new think tank, a new weekly newspaper, a new fortnightly satirical magazine, a new monthly cultural review, a new quarterly academic journal, and so much else besides. I will be standing for Parliament again here at North West Durham next time, so please give generously. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
