The areas where life expectancy is now going down often have Conservative MPs these days, while the kind of people who are still in the Labour Party show every sign that they might live forever.
Labour did not oppose the austerity programme until Jeremy Corbyn became Leader; on the contrary, for a time it had Chris Leslie as Shadow Chancellor. Most of its MPs have never made the change.
And Labour is about to be led by their choice, a man who has "increased life expectancy in the wealthiest parts of London" written all over him.
Think of the men you know and who are in their late fifties. Do they look like Keir Starmer? Do they still play football every week, as he does? Quite.
Ours is the 2020 Vision of a new political party, a new think tank, a new weekly newspaper, a new monthly cultural review, a new quarterly academic journal, and so much else besides.
I will be standing for Parliament again here at North West Durham next time, so please give generously. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
