The Far From Invisible Hand

Yet again, the BBC today treated the Adam Smith Institute as if it were part of the mainstream.

Madsen Pirie was even allowed to state unchallenged that the privatisation of the railways had been a success, and to fall back on the "British Rail" stand-up routine from 25 years ago, which was the mark of a lazy and clapped-out comedian even then.

The Government is just as bad. Its legislation against "lobbying" by charities was due entirely to lobbying by this registered charity (number 802750). As my friend Chris Manners puts it, another term of this, and the ASI will have replaced the Civil Service.
