Babylonian Captivity

The Shrine of Ezra the Scribe, inventor of synagogues and of the square Hebrew script, is already now a mosque. The Shrine of Ezekiel, with its ancient Hebrew inscriptions, is next on the list.

But hey, we all know that the only true Jews are Ashkenazi atheist ultranationalists, don't we? And we all know that only true Jews, thus defined, are entitled to Israeli citizenship, don't we?

They supported regime change in Iraq. So regime change in Iraq must have been A Good Thing. Anyone saying otherwise will remember having been called an anti-Semite then, and is still an anti-Semite now. Isn't that right?

And let's have no talk of declaring the Shrine of Ezekiel a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The only true Jews, the only true Israelis, are most nonplussed that such status might now be conferred on the Tomb of Rachel or the Tomb of Patriarchs, rendering internationally illegal their strategic bombing to destruction, which might very well be necessary. Mightn't it?

I could not agree more that there could never be any case for bombing another World Heritage Site. Such as Masada, the supreme icon of any Jewish nationalism. Or the ultra-Modern White City of Tel Aviv, the most abiding monument to the Bauhaus. Nor could they. Could they?
