Indeed although only 60% of schools were closed and a disproportionate number were "Catholic". As in the Health Service, the reformed church members had a conscientous objection to "strikes".

Don't forget the buses, Thatcher's 1985 Transport Act has yet to breach Derry's walls.
ReplyDeleteSome Protestant objection, as such, to strikes must be an Irish thing. The miners in England were largely Methodist, those in Scotland were largely Presbyterian, and those in Wales were largely "Chapel" of various descriptions.
