Starting As She Means To Go On

Pat Glass and her husband are friends of mine, and are my colleagues on Lanchester Parish Council. But Pat is refusing to attend hustings organised by Partnerships, churches, and so on, including at least one in Lanchester. Too much on, apparently. Meetings with the Miliband brothers are perfectly possible. But meetings in the village where she lives and is a Parish Councillor, and whose inhabitants she wants to vote for her, are not. Some of us, on the other hand, certainly are available for hustings. And if, in our fifties, we want our incomes to drop from gargantuan to merely enormous, then we will simply retire.

  1. No prizes for guessing that she may be 30 years older than you, but you have been politically active for much longer than her.

  2. "Pat Glass and her husband are friends of mine"

Funny way to treat friends - criticising them behind their backs on your blog....bet you wouldnt dare say it to their faces.

  3. You don't understand politics do you, Anon 16:33? Not what they teach you for A-level, what you learn on the ground. Nor can you ever have met David Lindsay. Afraid to say it to their faces? I don't think so!

  4. Nor does he understand this Internet thing, if he thinks that writing on a blog is going behind people's backs.

  5. I know David very well thank you "Rob" - and having watched him smarming around Pat and Bob at Church, and no doubt Parish meetings, I know very well that he would not say to their faces what he writes on here....I hope I am there when they inevitably find out though.

  6. Bob, at least, is a regular reader.

"Smarming around them at Parish meetings"? I've been on it three times longer than they have. As for the church, well, where do you want me to begin? Though I say so myself, I have no need to "smarm" around anyone there.

"Inevitably find out"? You really haven't the slightest understanding of political activism, have you?

  7. He can thank me or not as he sees fit. But does he smarm around them at church because:

    a) he is a reader, they are not?
    b) he is a Eucharistic minister, they are not?
    c) he is on the Pastoral Council, they are not?
    d) he used to be a governor of St. Bede's, they have never been?
    e) they were not weekly attenders until they ran for the council?
    f) he has already been written up favourably in the Catholic Herald which didn't even mention that Pat was a Catholic?
    g) he is already in touch with every parish justice and peace group in the constituency about having someone to know where the vote is and get it out?
    h) he has been active in pro-life round here since before he was even in the Labour Party?

Does he smarm around them at the Parish Council because:

    a) he has been on it since 1999, they have only been on it since 2007?
    b) he has been politically active in these parts for many years, no one had heard of them politically until three years ago?
    c) he got more votes than Pat?
    d) he would have got more votes than Bob if Bob had not been a distict candidate on the same day?
    e) his vote went up dramatically when he became an Independent?
    f) Bob is not yet three years into the Parish-nominated school governorship that David had for the previous eight years?
    g) he turns up more than they do?
    h) his vote for the district cost Bob a seat just as at the very least his vote for Parliament is going to cost Pat a seat?

  8. I have come across this site accidentally.

I anm , however very concerned by what I have read. As an ex constituent of the North West Durham area and as some one who knows of the professional experience of Pat Glass I find the comments made on here about her to be disgraceful.

Pat does care deeply about those vulnerable members of our society and is very experienced in this field.

She is also able to argue/debate an issue based on evidence and not conjecture.

I think that Mrs Glass if elected would do all she genuinely could for her constituents and the wider population in relation to those who are vulnerable in any way. I wish her and her campaign very well indeed.

  9. You are not an ex-constituent if you live in Langley Park.
