Give Them Short Shrift

First came the attempt to smear by association with the Soviet Union Ted Short: decorated by Franco (did anyone else see Michael Portillo's BBC Four film this week, and do they know anything about pro-Republican Catholics?), Companion of Honour to the Queen, Vice-President of the Prayer Book Society, denouncer of tuition fees.

And now comes an attempt to smear by association with East Germany George Thomas: accepter of an hereditary peerage (albeit as an heirless bachelor), Vice-President of the Methodist Conference, unwavering Gaitskellite Eurosceptic, and opponent both of Major's divorce liberalisation and of Blair's Welsh devolution.

The knives are clearly out in media London for the aged or dead stalwarts of social democratic, socially and constitutionally conservative, patriotic Labour. Whoever could be sharpening those knives? Take a wild guess.

  1. Absolutely right. I read that post on Thomas. You've got their number. Keep up the fight. The battle for proper Catholic control of the Herald needs to be next. Make it the paper most of its readers think it is, not the Gay Times.
