Andrew Neil’s Straight Talk interview with Ken Livingstone has been most illuminating: from working-class Tory stock (the working-class Tories are in fact the section of the electorate most loyal to any particular party), never as left-wing as he might have appeared in the wholly aberrant Thatcher and Blair periods, and certainly never a Marxist of any kind, still less a Trotskyist.
