Priests would of course choose to be thrown to the lions or burned at the stake rather than break the Seal of the Confessional. But the Epstein Class has been exposed, so this whole furore is being got up in order to reintroduce the rather faded popular association of child sexual abuse with the Catholic Church instead.
They are playing the long game. Their very last motivation for discrediting the Church would be to protect children from sexual exploitation. Rather, on this as on so very many other matters, they need the Church out of the way so that they can get down to business. I shall almost certainly be dead, but in 50 years’ time, the Church will be “blamed” for “what is now the unbelievable fact” that there ever was an age of consent. Print this off and keep it.
