As the Loyalist Communities Council withdraws its support for the Good Friday Agreement, then consider that the Ulster Defence Association, the Ulster Volunteer Force and the Red Hand Commando have at least supported that Agreement up to now.
It is Ulster Resistance that has held out, never so much as declaring a ceasefire, much less decommissioning any weapons. Ulster Resistance simply is the Democratic Unionist Party, which remains formally opposed to the Good Friday Agreement.
And from 2017 to 2019, the DUP was the Government's majority in the House of Commons. There is no other country is Western Europe where anything like that could have happened. Countries are subjected to economic, cultural and even military sanctions for far less.
Britain is the country where the Alt-Right has made it. Out of office in the United States, destined to be kept out forever in France by a two-round electoral system that was designed to keep out the Communist Party, saved only by the courts from being placed under surveillance in Germany despite having 88 seats in the Bundestag, and so on. But at or near the heart of Britain's permanent government.
Well, if they can make it, then so can we. And make it we must. I am beavering away on the creation of our think tank, of our Fellowships at one or more sympathetic universities, of our qualification for aspirant parliamentary candidates of any party or none, of our weekly current affairs magazine, of our fortnightly satirical magazine, of our monthly cultural review, of our quarterly academic journal, and of our arrangements to secure representation on public bodies by bypassing the weedy brains of the Liberal Establishment and the brainless brawn of the municipal Labour Right.
