The North Remembers

Is Lisa Nandy too young to remember the anger in the North during the 1980s? Not at all. I was 13 when Margaret Thatcher left office, and I certainly remember it all up here. The memory of that has not faded. People have been through a long Labour Government that was no better on the same issues. But that is all. Labour was "no better than the Tories". Yes, as bad as that.

Last year, the Conservatives seemed to be running against everything that had occurred in the British economy during in the previous 40 years; in reality, the rot had started 43 years to the month before the 2019 General Election. Somehow, they pulled that one off. But that was what happened. Thatcherism was neither forgiven nor forgotten.

Brexit will not be the issue in 2024. Having Got Brexit Done, then the Conservatives ought to be able to point to how much money they had spent and would be spending along the Red Wall, against the Thatcherite carping of New New Labour. But they are blowing it. Another national lockdown would be one thing. Using us as guinea pigs, however, is something else entirely.

In each constituency in 2024, there should be one candidate, of any party or none, who subscribed to this and thisThe complete list of those candidates would appear here, and anywhere else that would publish it. If I could raise enough money to be a viable candidate, then I would contest the seat where the most people had offered to sign my nomination papers. Please give generously.
