The figures for London and the South East are impossible. But putting London and the South East back into lockdown would mean putting the whole country back into lockdown, and the Government has set its face against that. Well, until it happens, anyway.
Today's announcement is the latest obvious delay to the inevitable. The inevitable second national lockdown. And the inevitable introduction of the Universal Basic Income. They might each be called something else in order to save face. But they are both coming. And soon.
