Notes From The Woodpile

Caroline Kisko's resignation as Membership Secretary of the Kennel Club is to be welcomed. But she had used only the same expression as Anne Marie Morris MP. When was a member of either House of the United States Congress last recorded using the n-word? Yet here we are.

The test of the sincerity and credibility of avowed anti-racists in the House of Commons, whether they prefer to talk about the Windrush Generation or about anti-Semitism, will be whether or not they table and pass a motion to expel Ms Morris from that House at the start of the next session's business.

The ostentatiously "anti-racist" MP for North West Durham has not done so, even though Ms Morris's words would now have been career-ending in South Africa or in the American South. Laura Pidcock is noting but a bag of wind, on this as so many other issues. It turns out that she did in fact address the TUC last week. But even I never noticed, so nobody else will have had a clue.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. A new party is now in the process of registration. After nearly 30 years of suggestion, speculation, and even a sort of preparation, I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham. The crowdfunding page is here, and buy the book here. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
