Wind
That is what Brown's call for pensioners to turn up the heating amounts to. Like the failure of the politicised Met Office to predict the cold spell, and like the failure of central and local government to ensure adequate stocks of grit and salt, the bad sci-fi proposal to erect giant windmills in the sea, rather than re-open pits or build nuclear power stations, is of a piece with the artificially inflated fuel bills that already fall heaviest on the poorest, including a disproportionately high number of the old. Anything, anything at all, to avoid proper jobs paying proper wages, to arrest economic development around the world, to restrict travel to the rich, and to stop the common people from enjoying the full diet for which our very teeth are designed.
