Political prisoner, activist, journalist, hymn-writer, emerging thinktanker, aspiring novelist, "tribal elder", 2019 parliamentary candidate for North West Durham, Shadow Leader of the Opposition, "Speedboat", "The Cockroach", eagerly awaiting the second (or possibly third) attempt to murder me.
Yes your boys died for that.
ReplyDeleteI note that another was named today.
Two scenarios present themselves. The family will say EITHER that he died doing a job he loved OR Tony BLiar sent him ito an illegal War.
The MOD Welfare and Press people do a better job now of getting to (or AT) the family BEFORE the Press. And the Elizabeth Medal no doubt helps keep the loved ones onside.
Yet a statement went out that "he will be remembered". I doubt it. How many are actually "remembered"? Gordon Brown (in what I think is a bad precedent but good for cameras) reads out names in the Commons. Maybe it gets them into Hansard. Maybe "remembrance" is satisfied by that.
But realistically nobody actually remembers them. Personally of 224 I remember Liam Malone and Gordon Gentle. And frankly thats it.
Prolly Karzai actually got more votes than Abdullah. But the point is now that Abdullah has more legitimacy than Karzai.
The bizarre spectacle of Abdullah talking to a US Ambassador (who was pleading for him to stand) while being interviewed by ITN .is a good metaphor for the Mess.
