Lock Him Down, Lock Him Up

There are lockdown-sceptics and even Covid-sceptics on the Old Left, which is how I know them. I do not agree with them, but imagine that the faces and voices of such scepticism had been theirs, rather than those of the people who had installed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, who had remained his social circle, and by whom he wished to be employed again in a few years' time.

Far from the Government's taking forever to find its way round to doing the right thing, the slightest dissent would have been met with the full force of mounted charges, water cannon, plastic bullets, and tear gas. At least. The leading figures would now be interned.

Johnson's attention to his past and future patrons has been downright fatal on a considerable scale. In particular, all subsequent problems have flowed, and will flow, from the premature lifting of the first lockdown. For that lifting, Johnson deserves to be impeached. In general, he deserves the ignominy that is justly heaped upon Tony Blair for the Iraq War. And so do the other parties, which have assisted him at every stage. But I am the Independent parliamentary candidate for North West Durham. What are you doing?
