Kevan Jones knows that this is nothing personal, but following his star turn yesterday, one of the many reasons to hope that George Galloway will indeed contest the ward of the Leader of Durham County Council next year, and George has not said no to that, is that it would give him a base in the North Durham parliamentary constituency.
Having turned 60 and after 23 years in Parliament, if Kevan were to retire in 2024, then his more or less certain successor as the Labour nominee could do with either losing to George, by then aged 70, or seeing George take enough votes to turn that Red Wall seat Blue. Either of those outcomes would make quite the victim impact statement.
