All Aboard

I would not ordinarily link to the Taxpayers' Alliance, but Guido Fawkes is revisiting this (PDF) today, as a much cheaper and more useful alternative to HS2.

See the first item on this list, and then give it a moment to sink in that in 13 years, the then MPs for Sedgefield and Kirkcaldy never bothered to make the A1 a dual carriageway between Durham and Edinburgh. The Labour Party here in North West Durham is alternately crying with laughter and screaming blue murder at Richard Holden's brilliantly simple idea to put Consett on the Metro. They never learn. Richard, by the way, has just been elected to the Public Accounts Committee. He is not the flash in the pan that Labour here assumes him to be.

Meanwhile, I hope that the Prime Minister really is as "passionate about buses" as he says that he is. Here in County Durham, we now barely have them, partly because it would be so unsafe for them among the potholes, but mostly because the County Council remains committed to the position of every Government in the 40 years from 1979 to 2019, that anyone on a bus after the age of 25 had failed at life.

But next year, we have the very real chance of taking Durham County Council to No Overall Control, which could have all sorts of consequences, but which would certainly deprive our local caricature of a right-wing Labour machine of the Leadership after more than 100 years. And I will be standing for Parliament again here at North West Durham next time, so please give generously. In any event, please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
