On Question Time, Iain Martin gave us the usual Loony Rightist cant about how, "I used to respect and admire the Labour Party in the days when it was privatising the NHS and bombing brown people to smithereens" (they didn't respect or admire it, even then).
Specifically, he said that that Labour Party had been "patriotic". "Patriotic", because it had forbidden even the slightest criticism of Israel. In point of fact, it had not, although it does now. But look at that definition of patriotism.
To the likes Martin, the patria is Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the Clinton-Romney, but not the Trump-Sanders, United States. In that order. He has no concept of Britain as a distinct entity, still less as a sovereign state. To have any such concept is to be "unpatriotic".
They are all like that. To them, it is so obvious that they do not even think about it. Anyone who does, is "unpatriotic". Even Tim Stanley, who was once a sympathetic biographer of Pat Buchanan, is succumbing to it these days.
But remember, it is the Left that is "unpatriotic". Of course it is.
And in the face of all of this, Jeremy Corbyn is backing down when he should be facing down. Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it.
It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
