Out of Place

As I write, the Churches of the Iraqi Communities in the United Kingdom held a remembrance service for the bereaved families of the Massacre at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 41 Brook Green, Hammersmith, London.

In attendance is Bishop Alan Hopes, carrying a message from Archbishop Vincent Nichols, as well as many family members of the victims. The Under Secretary of the Iraqi Embassy, the MP for Hammersmith, and several dignitaries are also present. A second Mass will take place on the 26th November at Westminster Cathedral. More information as soon as I have it.

Not a word on Harry's Place about the plight of the Iraqi Christians. Not a word about the massively reduced status of Iraqi women since 2003, either. Funny, that.

  1. It really is awful. The neocons have the gall to act like they didn’t know something like the current anti-Christian pogroms would happen if Saddam’s government was toppled. Poppycock. There were many folks out there prior to the invasion warning that if the Iraqi government was toppled, anarchy and sectarian violence would result, along with the creation of an opening for al-Qaeda to actually establish a real presence in Iraq, which did not exist prior to 2003.

The worst part about all of this is the possibility that the neocons purposely wanted a confrontation with al-Qaeda in Iraq in order to kill lots of jihadists and weaken the global jihadist movement. If this is true, then the Coalition soldiers and the Iraqi people, including Iraqi Christians, were used as bait in a vicious game of Straussian chess.
