This is a big embarrassment for the Afghan government and NATO. No wonder the U.S. military will soon be deploying tanks in Afghanistan. The surge strategy is not working, so it looks like NATO might try to blast the Taliban to the negotiating table.
But the problem with this strategy is that the Soviets probably used even more firepower in Afghanistan, and it still seemed to do nothing other than anger Afghans even more. I am not sure there is any way to “win” this war now.
