The Pope was of course mild and nuanced on the question of Scottish independence.
But English, Scottish and Welsh ethnic minorities and Catholics no more want to go down the road of who is or is not “really” English, Scottish or Welsh than Ulster Protestants want to go down the road of who is or is not “really” Irish.
Was he trying to help Cameron and Obama push the Scots towards independence?
ReplyDeleteHe must have been.
That'll get those Scottish Protestants into the Yes camp.
No, it won't. That's a whole other story.
ReplyDeleteThe Orange and the Green are equally anti-Indy.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are two main popular cultures in the most populous part of Scotland. One is ferociously Unionist as its first principle, and the other is also opposed to Scottish independence.
ReplyDeleteThe Protestants (in Scotland and Northern Ireland) are the most pro-Union.
ReplyDeleteThe Pope is clearly trying to change that.
Very clever from the Yes camp. Almost as smart as getting Obama and the E to condemn independence.
You are not as clever as you think you are.
ReplyDeleteI know how clever Alex Salmond is.
ReplyDeleteGive it up.
