The removal of Morgan McSweeney is necessary but not sufficient. It was Keir Starmer who appointed Peter Mandelson, and on Wednesday Starmer admitted to Parliament that he had done so in the knowledge that Mandelson's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was ongoing.
"Who hasn't made a mistake over Mandelson?", the line to and from Labour MPs, would be contemptible even without the fact that most of them were his personal appointees, as was everyone who had attained Ministerial office or promotion in September, if not earlier.
The PLP gave Starmer a standing ovation.
