A force of nature, still publishing books in her eighties.
I last saw her when she delivered the Inaugural Joe Cassidy Memorial Lecture, and she was in her eightieth year then.
"Exonerated" (His Honour Judge Nathan Adams, Durham Crown Court, 8 May 2025). Two-time political prisoner. Beaten up in prison, so I fear only God. Activist, journalist, hymn-writer, emerging thinktanker, aspiring novelist, "tribal elder", 2019 parliamentary candidate for North West Durham, Shadow Leader of the Opposition, "Speedboat", "The Cockroach".
There'll never be another.
ReplyDeleteThere never could be.
DeleteDidn’t Joe Cassidy say you were thick?
ReplyDeleteNot that I am aware of. The last time that I saw him, he had invited me in for a personal guided tour of the latest renovations to College. Just the two of us.
DeleteI confirm that he called you thick, in my hearing. It was when you accused him of child abuse and we urged him to sue you. He said it didn’t matter because everyone knew you were thick. Since then, you’ve gone to prison for harassment, so he’s been proved right.
ReplyDeleteBless.
DeleteYou have never set foot in Durham in your life. I can tell these things.
