Wallace Is No Braveheart

What an embarrassment Ben Wallace was, saved only by the fact that the Opposition frontbench and its minions also knew nothing about the subject. At one point, he claimed that Belarus was Russia's only ally.

So what that he used to be in the Army? Why must he necessarily know anything on that basis? He might also know about the history or the politics, but nothing today suggested that he did. Quite the reverse, in fact. Having served does not, in itself, confer any expertise. It is not the same as ever having read anything. Clearly, he never has.

As for the other side, if the Conservatives had done their job as an Opposition, then they could have kept us out of Afghanistan and Iraq. The same went for Labour and Libya. And here we are again.

But if you want to see the measure of them both, then look up the footage of most of their respective MPs whooping and hollering like persons possessed after Hilary Benn had demanded that we bomb Syria in support of IS. As much as anything else, that was the same IS that we were bombing in Iraq.
