Where Credit's Due?

One good turn deserves another, so Conservative MPs are being whipped to abstain on a motion proposed by Ab Starmer and the Official No Position.

That abstention is a clear sign that the Government intends to acquiesce, especially after the intervention of the Northern Research Group. But the logic of the theory behind Universal Credit has always been the Universal Basic Income, which Starmer has ruled out.

The Government will call that something else, but it is going to happen this year. What will Labour do? Abstain, as usual? Or unleash merry hell internally by voting against it?
