RIP Richard Holbrooke

But don't rush to canonise him. Just look at Afghanistan. And just look at Bosnia, with Father Christmas banned from the schools, and with Jews and Gypsies banned from the Senate and the Presidency.

  1. Holbrooke promoted opium growing in Afghanistan contrary to the wishes of the State Department and US drug enforcement officials in order to keep farmers from siding with the Taliban. As the severe policy failures in that country by the intervening powers become more apparent and look set to eclipse the Vietnam debacle, perhaps Holbrooke's involvement will be assessed unfavourably.

  2. Jews and Gypsies are not banned from the Senate. And they do not become President because they are not classed as one of the three groups represented in the Presidency. They being Croat Catholic, Bosniak Muslim and Serb Orthodox.

I am not an Islamofascist as you called me last time. But what you are is a Christianfascist bigot who makes the American right look moderate!

  3. The Senate (or House of the Peoples) has 15 members: five Muslims, five Serbs and five Croats. Jews and Gypsies need not apply. But they both exist in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

  5. Well done for Googling the river that flows through Durham. You are getting better.

  6. The book on Clark Clifford that Holbrooke wrote with (?) Clark Clifford was pretty good. The difference in the two man's careers may just have been that the American state had gotten more decadent by the time Holbrooke was making his way into power.
