A Better Alternative

AV would make possible the emergence of patriotic, morally and socially conservative parties. There would be such a party with Tory roots, and another with Labour roots. At least one of them would be in office all the time, and the Government would frequently be made up of the two of them together.

Their patriotic, morally and socially conservative, economically non-neoliberal character, including foreign policy realist and war-averse on all three counts, would be preserved by, among other means, the submission in the course of each Parliament of the internally determined shortlists for Prospective Parliamentary Candidate to binding ballots of the whole constituency electorate, and of the internally determined shortlists for Leader to binding ballots of the whole national electorate.
