Silly Splitters

Yes, Labour said this week that it would support a second referendum in order to stop a No Deal Brexit. I am the last person to welcome that.

But it was rendered academic within hours, when Theresa May effectively ruled out a No Deal Brexit after a third of the Government had threatened to resign if she did not, with several of them making the threat in articles in the Daily Mail.

When the Commons had to vote on the proposal to make possible her Stop A No Deal Brexit device, then the number of Conservative votes against was fewer even than the pitiful number of Conservatives who used to vote against Maastricht back in the day.

Everyone, from either side, who has joined the Independent Group now looks very silly indeed. Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it.

It has become a local commonplace that I am on 30-30-30 with Labour and the Conservatives here at North West Durham, so that any one of us could be the First Past the Post. I will stand for this seat, if I can raise the £10,000 necessary to mount a serious campaign. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
