Country Matters

Labour launches its rural manifesto, notably including the restoration of the Agricultural Wages Board that has been abolished by both Coalition parties.

Whereas the Conservative candidate for a very rural seat calls rural voters "straw-sucking-yokels and whingeing farmers".

But then, most owners of small and medium-sized business are now Labour supporters. Such enterprises account for 99.9 per cent of business activity in the United Kingdom.

And Michael Fallon will not rule out voting against a Labour Government on Trident. That would be fine by me. But coming from him, it sounds like a stab in the back.

Meanwhile, the UKIP candidate for a garrison town calls the Gurkhas "parasites and mercenaries".

  1. A terrific round up. People who believe in the countryside, SMEs, strong defence, respect for armed forces and Commonwealth ties should be voting Labour.
